You’ll hear “collective” a lot in this industry — plenty of salons borrow the word without changing much about how they actually work. At Lovoux, it’s genuinely how we’re built, and it’s worth explaining what that means, because it shapes everything about what you’ll experience the moment you sit down.

A different kind of business, underneath

In a commission salon, the salon itself owns the client relationship — it sets the pricing, takes a share of every service, and the whole structure is built around keeping chairs full. A collective works differently. At Lovoux, each artist runs their own small business inside our space: their own clients, their own pricing, their own schedule. We simply give them a beautiful, well-equipped place to do it. It’s a small distinction on paper, but it’s the reason everything else here feels a little different.

It changes the pace of your appointment

When a stylist isn’t working toward someone else’s targets, there’s no reason to rush you along or steer you toward something you didn’t come in for. Our artists tend to stay with us for years, too — so the person who does your colour this year is likely the same person doing it next year, and the one after that. There’s something nice about that kind of continuity, about not having to re-explain your hair history every time you book.

Every artist here has already put in the work

We’re not a training salon, and that’s intentional. The stylists, colourists and session artists at Lovoux come to us with full, established client lists of their own — this isn’t where someone builds a book from scratch. It just means that whichever chair you sit in, you’re in experienced hands.

The calm is kind of the point

A studio full of independent artists, each working at their own pace with clients they already know well, simply feels different to be in than a busy commission floor built for constant turnover. We didn’t design the atmosphere separately from the business model — the calm is what naturally happens when everyone in the room is doing work they chose, on their own terms.
